Echorouk visits hapless families of Algerian illegal immigrants now detained in Israel

Now, several humanitarian organizations including the international committee of the Red Cross and the Algerian Red Crescent are closely following this case and have established contact with the Israeli authorities in the hope of securing the early release of the 4 young Algerians.

. Conducting an investigation mission in eastern Algeria, Echorouk reporters have paid a visit to the families of the 4 Algerian illegal immigrants (Harraga) who are currently being detained in the Ramla prison in Israel.

The Harraga's families are settled in the small mountainous locality of Al Kalaâ about 60 km from the city of Skikda in eastern Algeria.

These families live in very precarious conditions and live from hand to mouth on account of the dire lack of resources and the sweeping unemployment besetting this desolate region.

About 1500 inhabitants live in this locality and most of the residents there, have at least one of their family members who has already endeavoured to cross illegally on a makeshift boat the Mediterranean sea seeking desperately a better life in Europe.

The number of illegal immigrants recorded in the Al Kalâa locality now stands at over 60, our reporters were told.

This explains the harsh living conditions facing the residents of this poor and neglected eastern locality of Algeria.

Echorouk reporters inquired on the spot about the social conditions of the 4 Algerian Harraga who are now imprisoned in Israel after a series of mishaps encountered on their way to Europe.

These 4 young Algerians were compelled with a sore heart to embark upon the illegal immigration track on account of their appalling social conditions brought about by the scourge of unemployment in their native region.

The wanted to flee their misery at home for a more decent life overseas and thereby be able to provide a financial assistance to their destitute families.

Unfortunately, the 4 young Algerians' dream did not come true as they were bamboozled on their way to Europe by a Greek smuggler, who is said to be an Israeli spy.

The latter succeeded after mendacious promises to lead them to Europe via Turkey, in throwing them treacherously into the hands of the Israeli security forces who immediately arrested the 4 hapless Algerians who were put in the Ramla prison after a speedy trial.
